KAD phone call this morning. It started with “I’m sorry to be calling you this early” and ended with both of us in silent tears, and promising to meet for breakfast at a diner (we both love diners) soon.

Today’s mood: Depeche Mode, “Precious” 🎵

Sorry to learn about Maggie Smith’s passing.

Today’s mood: Concrete Blonde, “Joey” 🎵

Work Surface Laptop was swapped from 13” to 15” and I don’t think I could ever go back. 💻

I downsized from Pro Max to Pro and my hands (and pockets) thank me. But I’m not thrilled with the battery life. Will take some getting used to (and carrying an external battery as a safety net). 📱

Today’s mood, Heart “Barracuda”. 🎵

I posted my phone number in a local KAD group, letting everyone know I’m available for anyone needing to talk or someone to just listen. I was surprised a few took me up on it, which was nice. For now, my action will be supporting the community. But more (action) to come.

No, you’re the one on the edge of a Perfect Strangers rewatch (blame it on season 4 of Only Murders in the Building). 📺

Instagram and FB chat messages with KAD friends, a Zoom call with another. The doc’s impact still being felt, the wake and ripples still making their way to and through everyone. The KAD community is angry, hurt, and saddened.

Todays mood: John Cale, “How We See the Light”. 🎵

Unplanned chilaquiles and horchata breakfast this morning as I zipped through some morning errands and was too early for next appt. The nearby coffeeshop was closed permanently (☹️) so opted for next best thing (😁).

It’s heartbreaking to watch adoptees, in various social media groups, reach out for help translating and questioning their paperwork for the first time. The documentary really stirred things up.

Went out for a “self-care” brunch. Smoked salmon eggs benedict and the “Ultimate Bloody Mary” From Station 16 in Sacramento, CA.

A bloody mary garnished with a cucumber, three olives, a lime, a shrimp tail and two slices of cajun sausage. a plate of smoked salmon eggs benedict with country potatoes.

The documentary was validating in that it said what a lot of us, Korean adoptees, have been saying and feeling for years: we’ve never fully believed the stories we have been told were true, nor could we trust those telling them to us. Our paperwork made us “adoptable”. It was a brochure, not a factual record.

The system turned children into people with no history, no parents and no ties. Many adoptees will never know the basic facts of their lives, their birthdays, their birth parents, if they were wanted or truly abandoned, because their documents are false. ~Hanna Lee

Bookmarking Frontline: South Korea’s Adoption Reckoning. It airs tonight but I know that if I watch it, it’ll kill my weekend mood. So will save it for when I’m ready.

The recent news about Korea’s adoption practices is hitting me pretty hard. And from the looks of things in the adoptee groups, I’m not the only one.

Today’s mood: The Vega Bodegas' “All My Fish Are Dead”. 🎵

Come here you big beautiful cup of coffee & lie to me about how much we are going to accomplish today

Watching Ohtani get his 50/50 season is pretty awesome. ⚾️

Today’s mood: Rachael Yamagata’s “Elephants”. 🎵

Aging parents, aging pets, aging selves. I wish I was better prepared for all of this, let alone all of it happening concurrently.

My copy of the Godzilla Minus One Blu-ray Deluxe Japan Collector’s Edition arrived and I am super happy about it. Planning to watch the b&w disc this evening.

Super weird that it’s no longer listed on Godzilla.com and I only see it listed on eBay now. Guess it really was limited edition. 🎥
